Ali Kashif Bashir (Senior Member, IEEE) is Professor of Computer Networks and Cybersecurity at Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. He leads the SISTEMS: Secure and Intelligent Systems Research Group, the Turing Network's AI Safety and Security Taskforce, and the cybersecurity pathway's line management. He has held honorary and adjunct positions at universities in the US, Canada, China, Malaysia, Lebanon, UAE, India, and Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon; and has advised businesses, government bodies, and companies such as IBM, Siemens, and Samsung. He completed his PhD from Korea University (QS#67) in Wireless Communication in 2012.
In the past, Ali collaborated with NTT, Japan, to design the world’s pioneer hybrid cloud architecture; with ITER (International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor), South Korea, to establish tunnels to propagate big data traffic among partner countries; and with SK Telecom to contribute to RFID-based shopping stores in South Korea. Ali has mentored hundreds of researchers, supervised over 30 PhDs and postdocs, evaluated over 80 PhD thesis, delivered more than 100 keynote/invited speeches across the globe including at IEEE Infocom; chaired 50+ conferences and workshops; organised around 50 guest editorials in leading CS Journals; published over 450 technology-leading research articles; 20 books, patents, and designed award-winning industrial products; and received best and outstanding project awards. His works contributed to SDG goals and have been referred to by international bodies like the IMF, the European Union, and the Govt of Singapore and Denmark. He is a senior member of IEEE and a Distinguished Speaker of ACM, founding EIC of IEEE Technology, Policy and Ethics. Senior Editor of IEEE TCE and IEEE JETCAS, and AE of several reputed Journals such as IEEE TNSE.
He is amongst the top 250 CS scientists in the UK by Research.com, and a recipient of the Clarivate Highly Cited Researcher Award 2023 and 2024. He was selected as the Science Ambassador of Manchester City, Mentor for academics in Manchester City, an adviser of the Commonwealth Scholarship, UK, etc.
