Awards, as authorized by the Board of Governors with the approval of the TAB Awards and  Recognition Committee, shall be given by the Society. The awards shall be recommended by the Awards Committee, which comprises the Chairs of all Award Subcommittees, is appointed by the President and chaired by the Past President who coordinates all awards activities.

Should the Past President be unable or unwilling to serve, the President shall appoint the Chair. The committee shall solicit nominations throughout the society for the awards, screen  candidates, and recommend awards to the Board of Governors. Where appropriate, the  committee should also recommend candidates for Medals, Awards, and other recognitions  within the IEEE. When there is more than one qualified person in a given nomination period, the
award may be given to more than one recipient. Alternately, if there are no qualified candidates, an award need not be given in that year. A recipient of an individual CASS award must be a  CASS member in good standing. The following awards subcommittees shall be appointed by 
the President:

Society and Achievement Awards Subcommittees

Mac Van Valkenburg Subcommittee

To honor outstanding technical contributions in a field within the scope of the Society and outstanding leadership in the field.

Vitold Belevitch Circuits and Systems Subcommittee

To honor a person who has made fundamental contributions in the field of circuits and systems. Contributions are expected to have a long-lasting impact on a field within the scope of CAS and/or open new vistas for research and development. There is a long tradition of  groundbreaking work in the circuits and systems community and the award should recognize such contributions and stimulate outstanding achievements of this type. Belevitch’s  development of a coherent theory of passive multiports is a master example of such a fundamental contribution. The award shall be presented biennially.

Charles A. Desoer Technical Achievement Subcommittee

To honor outstanding technical contributions over a period of years within the scope of the Society as documented by publications (including patents).

Industrial Pioneer Subcommittee

To honor a person or persons with outstanding and pioneering contributions in developing academic and industrial research results into industrial applications and/or commercial products.

John Choma Society Education Subcommittee

To honor outstanding contributions to education in a field within the scope of the Society as documented by publications of textbooks, research supervision of graduate and undergraduate students, development of short courses, participation in adult education. This award was renamed to recognize John Choma who was well-known and respected in CAS Society and community. His passion for the field and for education more than justifies the renaming of this award and CAS is honored to do so in remembrance and honor to him

Meritorious Service Subcommittee

To honor outstanding long-term service to the welfare of the Society

Outstanding Paper Awards Subcommittees

Darlington and Guillemin-Cauer Subcommittee

To recognize the best paper bridging the gap between theory and practice published in the IEEE.

Very Large Scale Integration Systems Best Paper Award Subcommittee

To recognize the best paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Very Large Scale Integration Systems. To be instituted during the three calendar years preceding the award  (Transactions on VLSI Systems first issued in 1993) and beginning in 1995.

Circuits and Systems for Video Technology Award Subcommittee

To recognize the best paper published in the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems for Video Technology.

Biomedical Circuits and Systems Award Subcommittee

The IEEE Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems Best Paper Award recognizes the best paper published in the “Transactions on Biomedical Circuits and Systems” publication. The award is based on general quality, originality, contributions, subject matter and timeliness.

Outstanding Young Author Best Paper Award Subcommittee

IEEE Circuits and Systems Society ISCAS Student Best Paper Award

To recognize outstanding technical contributions by students, as evidenced by the quality of papers, their presentations, and their technical excellence (as demonstrated through Q&A and discussion).
 

Transactions on Circuits and Systems Best Paper Award

To provide financial assistance to IEEE Student Members to enable them to present their research work at CASS-sponsored conferences and workshops

Student Awards Subcommittees

Pre-Doctoral Scholarship Subcommittee

Ten pre-doctoral grants to recognize a young member enrolled in a PhD program in a field related to the Circuits and Systems Society Field of Interest to facilitate mobility to conduct interdisciplinary research at another research department

Student Travel Subcommittee

To provide financial assistance to IEEE Student Members to enable them to present their research work at CASS-sponsored conferences and workshops
