Krishna Somandepalli is currently a Senior Researcher at Google DeepMind and previously Google Research, a role he has held since 2021. He completed his PhD in Electrical and Computer Engineering from the University of Southern California (USC) in 2021, where he was part of the Signal Analysis and Interpretation Laboratory (SAIL) advised by Prof. Shri Narayanan.

His research focuses on machine intelligence, particularly multimodal learning (integrating data like audio, video, and text). Key application areas include multimedia understanding (analyzing movies, ads), affective computing (emotion recognition), speech processing, and developing robust and fair AI.

Historically, he has made significant contributions through numerous publications in these areas. Notable involvements include co-creating a screenplay analysis tool piloted by major studios, collaborating with the Geena Davis Institute on media representation, and research on fMRI data during an earlier affiliation with NYU Langone.
