Description

Bordeaux Summer School - Energy efficient embedded artificial intelligence (E3AI)
19 June - 23 June, 2023
IEEE CAS Seasonal School on Technologies for Artificial Intelligence

The E3AI summer school is open to second-year Master's students, doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, researchers, and professionals with an interest in embedded artificial intelligence, deep learning, neuromorphic computing, natural language processing, spintronics, and 6G communications.

Course content will address the consequent skill gap between embedded technology and deep learning applications, and will equip participants with the interdisciplinary knowledge and skills needed to develop innovative circuit architectures and execute data-intensive applications on resource-constrained devices.

This summer school is supported by FVLLMONTI, Hermes, and RadioSpin, three H2020 European projects, and is co-organized with the Green AI (GrAI) chair in artificial intelligence and the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society. The event is the first in a series of similar bi-annual events organized by and for the Embedded Artificial Intelligence (EAI) transdisciplinary community.

The IEEE CAS Seasonal School on Technologies for Artificial Intelligence aims to address the massive skill gap between embedded technology and deep learning applications. It covers the questions of the technologies required for and by Artificial Intelligence for given applications such as smart imaging for healthcare, speech recognition and processing for a universal translator, and sub-THz communication based on a cognitive radio-frequency transceiver.

School Venue
The in-person edition of the IEEE CAS Seasonal School on Technologies for Artificial Intelligence will be held on June 19th - June 23rd, 2023 in Bordeaux, France at the University of Bordeaux. Virtual participation is possible only for lectures, as the hands-on sessions will not be available online.

This seasonal school is designed for master's students, doctoral students, post-doctoral fellows, researchers, and professionals with an interest in embedded artificial intelligence, deep learning, neuromorphic computing, natural language processing, spintronics, and 6G communications.

School Format
The seasonal school will be held in an in-person format and lectures can be attended virtually. Course content covers a wide scope of themes with a theoretical introduction to the technologies, an explanation of the hardware side, and a focus on applications.

The educational objectives of the summer school reflect the highly interdisciplinary nature of the Embedded Artificial Intelligence research theme, covering on the one hand topics related to fabrication, characterization, modeling, design, simulation, and exploration of neuromorphic devices; and on the other hand application-specific topics including speech and text processing, 6G communications, and radio frequency oscillators.

Throughout this seasonal school, renowned and dynamic speakers will share their insights on the latest advances and applications on the integration of software and hardware solutions with highly optimized machine learning models and a new generation of lightweight, energy-efficient embedded hardware.
