Luciano Volcan Agostini is an associate professor at Federal University of Pelotas , Pelotas, Brazil, since 2002, working at the Computer Science area. He is a professor and researcher at the Master and Doctorate in Computer Science courses and also at the undergraduate courses of Computer Science and Computer Engineering. He leads the Video Technology Research Group (ViTech). Currently he is a Brazilian CNPq distinguished researcher (PQ level 1C). He received the M.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS), Porto Alegre, Brazil, in 2002 and 2007, respectively and the B.Sc. degree in Computer Science from UFPel, in 1998. He was the Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies at UFPel from 2013 to 2017. He has experience in the Computer Science area, with emphasis in Digital Systems, Computer Architecture and Organization and Data Compression. His research interests include: 2-D and 3-D video coding, algorithmic optimization, dedicated hardware architectures, arithmetic circuits, FPGA-based design, and microelectronics. He has authored over 200 published papers in journals and conference proceedings. He served as a Program Committee member in many conferences and he also served as reviewer of the most important journals in his research area.

He is an IEEE and ACM Senior Member. He is a member of the IEEE CAS, IEEE SP and IEEE CS societies. He is an elected member of IEEE CAS Multimedia Systems & Applications Technical Committee (MSATC) and IEEE CAS Visual Signal Processing and Communications Technical Committee (VSPCTC). He is also a member of SBC and SBMicro Brazilian societies. He is the chair of the SBCCI Steering Committee.
