Dear IEEE JETCAS Readers,

Dear IEEE JETCAS Readers,

The IEEE Journal on Emerging and Selected Topics in Circuits and Systems (JETCAS) proudly published its 2026 March issue to present the latest technological breakthroughs and research advancements in Energy-efficient optical communications, optical integrated circuits, and signal processing. This issue highlights recent advancements in energy-efficient optical communication systems, optical integrated circuits, and emerging signal-processing techniques that are essential for supporting the growing demands of modern high-performance computing and data-center infrastructures. As AI technologies and communication networks continue to expand in scale and complexity, the need for massive computational throughput has intensified, driving systems toward multi-card collaboration and real-time high-speed data exchange. Fiber-optic communication, with its inherently large bandwidth, has become a critical enabler in meeting these escalating data-transfer requirements. However, as transmission speeds increase, signal-processing algorithms grow more complex and require significantly greater computational resources. This trend heightens system power consumption and introduces new challenges in thermal management and transceiver design, underscoring the importance of research in low-power short-reach optical communication for next-generation systems. By bringing together contributions across these core themes, this Special Issue underscores the growing importance of innovation in photonic system design and the potential of scalable, high-efficiency optical solutions. Collectively, these efforts offer timely insights and help guide the development of next-generation, energy-efficient photonic systems.
