IEEE Senior member, received the B.Sc in Electronics and B.Sc. in Physics from the Federal Univ. of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS, 1979), and the M.Sc. (1982) and Ph.D. (1987) degrees in Electrical Engineering from Stanford University.
His research interests are in Integrated Circuit design, Digital CMOS, Low-power CMOS, dedicated complex algorithms and VLSI architectures, SoCs and accelerators for image, video, and signal processing, and analog and mixed-signal VLSI Design. Sergio Bampi was Distinguished Lecturer (2009-10) of IEEE Circuits and Systems Society (CASS), Technical Director of the Microelectronics Center CEITEC (2005-2008) and is the past President of the FAPERGS Research Funding Foundation in Rio Grande do Sul state.
He was a visiting research professor at Stanford University (1998-99) and director of the National Supercomputer Center (1993-96) in Porto Alegre. He has co-authored more than 510 papers in major conferences and journals, in the microelectronics field and in CMOS digital circuits in particular.
