Shanthi Pavan is the NT Alexander Institute Chair Professor of Electrical Engineering at IIT Madras, where his research spans high speed analog circuits, data converters, and signal processing. Prof. Pavan completed his B.Tech. at IIT Madras in 1995, followed by an M.S. and Sc.D. from Columbia University in 1997 and 1999. Before joining IIT Madras in 2002, he contributed to cutting edge IC development through positions at Texas Instruments and BigBear Networks, working on high speed analog filters, data converters, and microwave ICs for communication systems. He is co author of the widely used textbook Understanding Delta Sigma Data Converters, whose second edition received the Wiley–IEEE Press Professional Book Award (2020). He has received several honours, including the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize, the IEEE Circuits and Systems Society Darlington Best Paper Award, the JC Bose Fellowship and election as a Fellow of the IEEE, the Indian National Academy of Engineering, and the Indian National Science Academy. Prof. Pavan has also served the global circuits community as the Editor in Chief of the IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems I, Vice President of Publications for the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society, on the editorial boards of the IEEE Journal of Solid-State Circuits, the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Letters, the IEEE Circuits and Systems Magazine, and as a distinguished lecturer for multiple IEEE societies.
